About Us
The History of Calhoun Sportswear
In 1973, Martin Myers founded a company called Calhoun Creations, which later evolved into Calhoun Sportswear. The company operated out of a family friend’s basement in Thorold Ontario, and using a single screen printing machine, Calhoun printed imported t-shirts for the custom market. Within a few months, the company moved to an old industrial building in St. Catharines, Ontario. In 1975, Calhoun expanded to a larger industrial property and began to manufacture t-shirts. In the early days, major accounts included music retailers, radio station promotions, and custom orders. Later, Calhoun began to manufacture clothing for colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
In 1981, the factory moved to our present facility on Bunting Road in St. Catharines, Ontario. This facility is approximately 35,000 square feet, and houses our cutting, sewing, design and printing operations. In 1985, Calhoun began exporting to Retailer and Corporate customers in the United States. A 10,000 square foot addition to this building was completed in spring 2001, and state of the art accounting and marketing offices were added in 2004. Calhoun Sportswear also maintains 10,000 square feet of warehouse space in Buffalo NY to support its US customers.
Calhoun Sportswear has evolved to manufacture and/or market over 100 different types of apparel and about 50 varieties of complementary hard good items ranging from beer steins to wooden deck chairs. We also produce specialty products that are made off-shore and imported to our warehouses, or directly to customers.
Since our humble beginning in 1973, Calhoun Sportswear has emerged as a leader in printed active sportswear for promotional purposes in North America.
